UFO drum

Updated: 4 days ago

Celestial sounds with earthly depth

The first time I heard the UFO drum was during my yoga teacher training in Bali. I was immediately captivated. The warm, meditative tones made me feel as if I were floating, ecstatic, held, deeply relaxed. I knew instantly: I have to have this.

What is a UFO drum?

The UFO drum is a metal percussion instrument, related to the Handpan and Tongue drum. It’s compact, portable, and tuned to a fixed scale, so every note sounds harmonious. You play it with your fingers or soft mallets, and the tones resonate long and round.

What does this drum do?

  • induces deep relaxation

  • stimulates creativity and intuition

  • supports meditation and breathwork

  • softens mental tension and overstimulation

Its tones are almost celestial, as if you're arriving on another planet. And yet, the vibrations are felt in your belly, your heart, your whole system. It’s music that moves between earth and sky.

My personal connection with the UFO drum

This particular UFO drum has been approved by the Indonesian National Gamelan Orchestra, and you can feel that. It has honesty, purity. And maybe it’s no coincidence that I resonate so deeply with this instrument. On both my mother’s and father’s side, my roots are in Indonesia. My mother was born on Java, and I myself have spent long stretches of time there, in Java, Bali, Lombok, the Gili Islands, Sulawesi...

Every time I play the UFO drum, it feels as though I’m not just touching my own memories, but also those of my ancestors. As if sound builds a bridge across generations.

Why I use it

Because it touches. Because it opens. Because it balances. The UFO drum is a gentle doorway to deep layers. To calm, to magic, to memory.
